You have the right to privacy and confidentiality in your counselling relationship. Your privacy and the subjects you discuss with your counsellor as well as assessment materials and records will be kept confidential and will not be shared or released with family, workplace, or any other person without your expressed written consent.
Please be aware that in the event any of these 3 conditions are met, your counsellor will make all efforts to discuss the reasons for waving confidentiality prior to releasing the information; however for immediate legal or safety reasons may be unable to do so prior to sharing your information.

Your counsellor operates from a framework that believes therapeutic goals can be reached by processing the thoughts, emotions, and values that interact with and influence behaviors and experience. Your counsellor will work to assist you in this process and at times may challenge you to determine if an existing pattern of thinking, feeling, or behaving is beneficial in your life.
As a client you have complete control over your choice of goals and the direction of your counselling experience. Your counsellor is skilled in several different therapeutic techniques which may be used alone or in combination to explore your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours in order to obtain your counselling goals. Your counsellor will inform you about these techniques and their potential to help you reach your goals. It is important to remember that counselling is a personal and introspective journey, as such please discuss with your counsellor what you feel is the best fit for you.
If you feel that a particular approach is not well suited for you, or for whatever reason you are not satisfied, please discuss this with your counsellor and they will be happy to make any necessary changes to help you reach your goals.
During your counselling experience, you may become aware of, or experience distress in your life as you process and make changes to the emotions, values, and meanings that are influencing you. You have the right to stop any therapeutic technique or process at any time if you feel uncomfortable, do not wish to continue, or do not feel that it is helping you reach your goals.
Your have the right to discuss any problem or grievance you have with you counsellor. If you are not satisfied with the resolution you have the right to report any grievances to the Ethics Committee of the Canadian Counselling Association.
You have the right to terminate your counselling relationship, at anytime. For your benefit in debriefing your counselling experience it is encouraged to include your counsellor to participate in this termination process.
You have the responsibility to participate in identifying and developing therapeutic goals.
You have the responsibility to participate in counselling sessions and to approach your counsellor when you have question or a complaint.
You have the responsibility to keep confidential any personal information regarding others that you may come in contact while as a result of your counselling involvement.
It is important to note that confidentiality may be waived if the following circumstances are present:
