Gestalt therapy focuses on the immediate process of the problem and what a person is experiencing in the moment as opposed to the problem as a whole. The emphasis of Gestalt therapy is to address what a person is doing, thinking, and feeling in the moment when they are dealing with a problem. This works to assiste the individual identify and progress past the entrenched patterns of emotions and behaviours that have only worked to personify the problem.
The objective of Gestalt Therapy is to enable oneself to to become fully aware of their psychological processes and the unfinished business that is interfearing with fullfillment and personal growth. The Counsellor directs the client to focus on the process of the problem and their emotions in order to guide them complete unfinished business and develop using creative solutions.
By becoming aware of and transforming old maladaptive interpratations of past or current events the individual develops self acceptance and the ability to experience themselves in the "now" without interference from hurtful baggage from past experiences.
